31.5.2006 : Outage in the UK-landroute
Repairs of the THUS landroute in Scotland were finished in the evening of May 31st.
THUS services were operational at 23:54.
5.3.2006 : Increased Reliability
For the past months Farice has been preparing a reduntant route in the UK backhaul between the landing station at Dunnet Bay in North Scotland and Farice’s Point of Presence. This work has been done in cooperation with THUS plc., which is Farice’s backhaul provider in the UK.
The secondary route is now operational and will enable a full redundancy for the part of the UK backhaul that lies between Inverness and London (see attached drawing).
At the same time a new Point of Presence, (PoP) for Farice’s services is operational in Telehouse North in London.
Fourteen of the seventeen failures in THUS cables for the past 24 months occurred within the area that now has full redundancy. If the redundant route would have been operational from the beginning of Farice’s operations, it would have prevented disruption of service in these fourteen instances.
The improvements in the UK backhaul will lead to a much higher reliability in the delivery of Farice’s services.
THUS plc. provides Farice with the new backhaul routes.
